Bonjour a tous,
Got another question, this one about the included search engine and how
it acutally indexes the site. I've just set up a test site and have
around 20 test articles published in the database. Although the search
engine works, it doesn´t seem to index the articles to 100%. How can
this be? I can find an author by her first name but not on her
surname...
Best regards,
Hi,
The indexing works the following way :
- a "document" (that is either an article, a short story, a section...)
is queued for indexing in two cases : either 1) if it is modified
in the administration space (/ecrire), or 2) if it displayed
in the public site but not yet indexed.
- the queue of documents to be indexed is processed during
calls to the public site, only if the call doesn't trigger
a recalculation (i.e. the cache is being used) : this to
prevent timeouts due to cumulation of calculation time and
indexation time (this precaution is only useful on slow
servers, especially free hosting services).
So it means that, if you switch the search engine on after
having written some articles, these articles will only be
indexed if they are accessed in the public site. Also, if
you want to index all at once by "sucking" the whole public
site, then you must do it twice (because of recalculations).
Besides, when searching and indexing, words that are 3 characters
long or less are ignored. This could be the reason why a surname
gets ignored (e.g. "Bob").
Yours
Antoine.
