Various SPIP Questions

Just a few more niggly questions before I complete the project - I'll start
with the small ones first. Hope you'll bear with me...

1. When I 'Add an image' to sit inline with the text, how do I remove the
file size from the 'alt' tags?

2. On the same subject, which php file to I have to amend to stop the
caption and description from automatically appearing in the published page?

3. Is there a way of getting the 'Visit the site' button on the top nav bar
of the interface to open a new browser window instead of staying in the same
one (can't find it in inc_presentation.php3). I know it's not good practice
but I think in this instance it would be more convenient).

4. Amongst others, I have a 'Productions' section on my site which contains
a main article and a number of dependant sub-sections (all linked to from
the main article). I have built another 'Archive' section which mirrors the
'Productions' section exactly, so that when a production is over I can
archive it. So far so good, I've built a main Archive page which contains a
list of the archived article titles and then links to them. The problem
occurs when I try to link to the relevant subsections from that archived
article - how do I do this? All I'm managing to do so far is to link to the
most recently published archived article in that subsection, not the one
that specifically relates to the article...do I need to create a new section
inside 'Archive' every time I want to archive something?

Really appreciative of any help you can send my way.

I'd like to try my hand at any untranslated French-English articles as a way
of putting back into the community - my French isn't great but it's
passable, so let me know if I can help.

What about right-clicking ?

Roger,

There are some articles which still need doing. If you see anything good to do, I don't want to discourage you. However, Spip 1.8 is going to usher in so many changes, that I don't feel it's very worthwhile translating much more technical documentation until it comes out.

On the other hand, some of the private area English interface and the Online help could do with being made more "English", some of it is in franglais. (For example I was looking at "Site's evolution" the other day, and wondering what it meant...) Perhaps you've noticed something which needs changing too?

You can sign up to get a login here:

and then login to the online translation interface:
http://www.spip.net/trad-lang/trad_lang.php3

there you can correct short strings (you need to keep going back to the private area to see the changes you are making are appearing where you expect them to appear).

One way of doing it is looking at the English (private area and online help), seeing something that needs to be changed, switching to French to check (if the meaning is really very unclear), then using the search box in the online translation interface to search for the string in English which needs reworking.

If you do take this on, it would be good to keep George Kandalaft (george@diwanalarab.com) and me informed of what you are doing (unlike the Spip articles, the online translation interface does not have any system for notifying changes).

best wishes,
Paolo
