First, I apologize for not writing in french, because my written french is not very good.
I neded some web publication/content management system, so i started to look around the internet. Every publicaly available system was either too complicate to install, too complicated to use, not working or overbloated with too many unnecessary features. Only by accident I have found SPIP.
The installation went smoothly, only problems i had, were problems with debian and mysql. After playing with SPIP (1.5.2) for a while and looking around what it provides and how it works I have told to myself, that this is the thing i was looking for. My first impression was: It is clean, easy to use and i have everything I need. Moreover, compared to other web content management projects, SPIP seems to me, that it is more 'human oriented' than 'programmer oriented' and that is what i like the most.
I would like to create a site using SPIP. However, i have one problem and that is that SPIP administration part is french only. I do not mind it, but because there are going to be authors/administratos/redactors who do not speak french, this will be a major problem. I have already started to translate some mostly used parts of the administration, but i consider it as a temprorary solution. My questions is: Are you planning to make SPIP localisable to other languages? Extraction of all strings into single file and having one option in installation/administration part for language selection should be suficient. (Other file for month/day names and date formats is required as well).
What do you think?

Version 1.6's administration part will be multilingual. You may download a
pre-release on now.

The current development version is already internationalised and
localised in several languages (including English) ! You can download
it at the following address :

(this version is quite stable, don't worry)
If you want to localise SPIP into your mother tongue, you may
also susbscribe to the translators' mailing-list :

Most current translators are French-speaking, but you can
use any language on this mailing-list (some people are already
talking together in Spanish). You can get a grab at the translation
interface here :

You can for exemple select 'en' as the source language and 'sk' as
the target one. Don't hesitate to test it

I have created new localisation 'sk' for Slovak language and I have started to translate some texts. Thing is, that some text strings are displayed invalid or some characters are written as '?'. Slovak language uses iso-latin-2 encoding. Is it possible to set a language encoding (for administration part) somewhere?
You can for exemple select 'en' as the source language and 'sk' as
the target one. Don't hesitate to test it

There shouldn't be any encoding problems, as all non-ascii characters
are transformed into HTML entites (either é-like or {-like ;-).
As you see, certain accents have been properly converted... I would
rather say you've got a browser problem. Could you try with another
browser (e.g. Mozilla) ?
