I just installed SPIP 1.9 on a hosted server, and it went smoothly following your English instructions.
Site5.com is the hosting company. I set a mysql db and user up beforehand and used localhost as the server.
My only confusion came from the french links on the initial, almost empty screen. Eventually I figured out which one linked me to the administrator panel.
That's right that beeing french, I didn't notice that this message on
the public site before installation was in french only
At this stage, a link to the administration panel could be dangerous
only if someby could install the site for you (ie. having your
passwords, etc.).. There is a poor risk about it, and dissimulating
the installation process isn't a protection again attack.
So why not make it appear on the default page befor installation ? I
agree with you that it would be more intuitive.
I'll propose a patch for it tonight.
