## Alternative methods to install SPIP

mercredi 27 mars 2019 , par [James](.././?page=auteur&id_auteur=180&)

As needs and technologies evolve, initiatives have emerged within the SPIP
community to carry out installations and updates of one or more sites.

Most often, it is an overlay of the official methods
(https://www.spip.net/ecrire/?exec=article&id_article=3103).

## Home-made Command-line tools

For those who have access via a terminal to their production servers, the
tools below simplify the use of the CLI subversion client :

* Install and Update SPIP with SVN
(https://github.com/JamesRezo/spip_svn_loader) is an interactive guide that
simplifies the choice of specific `svn` commands to use depending on the
circumstances.
* Much more than an installation wizard, SPIP-Cli
(https://contrib.spip.net/SPIP-Cli) is a management tool for your SPIP
sites.

## Linux distributions

**Debian**

* The Debian Package (https://packages.debian.org/source/stable/spip)
installs SPIP in shared mode on a Debian or Ubuntu server.
* There is also a solution for self-hosting
(https://github.com/YunoHost-Apps/spip_ynh) with YunoHost
(https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/YunoHost).

**Fedora**

* To date, there does not seem to be an RPM package for SPIP, and
that’s a shame.

## Vagrant

If you know Vagrant_(software)
(https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vagrant_(software)), this project
(https://github.com/arkhi/spip-testing) will interest you.

## Docker

Docker_(software) (https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Docker_(software))
automates the deployment of applications in software containers.

Many people have come up with their own recipes for using this tool :

* On the Docker Hub (https://hub.docker.com/r/ipeos/spip/)
* https://github.com/rsuinux/spip3
* https://github.com/magikcypress/docker_spip

## Composer

Composer (https://getcomposer.org/doc/00-intro.md) is a dependency
management tool in PHP. It allows you to declare the libraries your project
depends on and it will manage them (install / update) for you.

* SPIPRemix (https://spip.lerebooteux.fr/) is an experimental model
designed to demonstrate the integration of composer in the development of
SPIP.
