problèmes d'install

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for your suggestions. This is what I did:
1. I deleted all files and folders from previous installations.

1. I downloaded the .tgz file from spip.net; then uncompressed the file.

1. From the install directory, I ran chmod -R a+rwx so that read/write/execute is set on all files in the root and all subdirectories.

1. Using IE 6.x, I went to [http:///ecrire/install.php3](http:///ecrire/install.php3) . The « Publication System Installation … » screen appeared.

1. I selected English from the drop-down list box, then clicked « Next>> » . Error messages identical to the ones described earlier were displayed.

1. At your suggestion, I created a PHP test file to display the environment data. You may view the results at http://www.smferguson.com/2cv/test.php . Since I am not totally familiar with the environment requirements for SPIP, I don’t know what I am looking for, unfortunately.

1. Then, in reading other articles, I discovered that the SPIP authors, in a fit of chauvinism (a useful French word), decided to give all hard coded PHP file references the .PHP3 extension.

Since I do not know if Hostway (one of the largest hosting companies here) has added the proper configuration to Apache to accommodate this, I changed all PHP3 extensions to PHP, and used a utility to change all internal file references to PHP extensions as well.

It still doesn’t work.
So, there you have it. I surrender.

Thank you for your help, Daniel. Although SPIP promises much better functionality than the other open-source content management systems I’ve looked at, SPIP is probably is not suitable for someone:
- who is not a professional programmer
- who uses a large hosting service
- who doesn’t have control over ideosyncratic Apache configuration variables
If you have suggestions for other open-source CMS software for the type of site I need to develop (at http://www.wacintanka.org ), please let me know.

Merci,

Scott Ferguson
