Import of old database php/mysql

Im about to download my intire database behind my spip site (1.92) (upgraded several times)
And make a completely new one..( with the help of a new spip install..)

Is it possible to import all the old articles into a new data base ( total around 100MB ) or is this a bad idea?

I know this is things you have to do with php my admin etc.. ( just cant find the "import button"..)
But is there an easier way, and is that in generally terms a "wrong" way to do it ??
kindly
Tom

Hi Tom,

I think there's no need to do this via PhpMyAdmin. You can do this directly from SPIP. Just do a dump before deleting your files (through the SPIP backend), back this up, install the new spip in the new database, and from the SPIP backend load the content from the database dump you've done previously. As long as the old version of spip is the same as the new one, there shouldn't be a problem.

You also need to add all the pictures in the IMG folder to the new installation. One possible problem may be if you use plugins that add tables to the database. I guess it should do to simply install these plugins before you add the content to the new database.

Hi Tom,

on Spip1.9.2, the backup also dumps plugin tables. To recover them,
just activate your plugins on the new installation before importing
this dump. Normally, in this way you shouldn't have any big problem (I
guess..

hi all,

my name is ahmed veriava, and i help manage the site www.apf.org.za, which is hosted by alternatives.

The site was using an older version of spip and because the target of a whole range of spam merchants. alternatives asked us to temporily remove the site and asked us to update to site to the latest version of spip and remove all the spam.

While i have managed to update the site to the latest version of spip, becuase there is so much spam it is impossible to remove this manually from the admin section of the site. As a result i need help, basically for someone to explain to me how to go about removing the spam directly from the database. becuase everything is in french, i have no idea how to proceed

any help will be much appreciated
regards
ahmed

the comments are in [spip]_forum table.

you can do something like:

DELETE FROM spip_forum WHERE texte LIKE ‹ %some spam text% ›;

BE AWARE! this way you may end of with a site without any comments!

understand exactly what are you doing or don’t do it

thanks jadi,

your advice was spot on.

but after that, in an act of carelessness…i lost my entire database. its a long story. and a sad, embarressing one. so i’m not going to tell it

so, now i need to recover the old database from the preupgrade backup, which i think is the dump.xml file in the ecrire/data, right? anyone want to help me on how the best way to go about this is. should i just start from scratch reinstalling spip.

with the database gone i also can’t get into the backend of the site anymore. sigh!

anyhelp greatly appreciated.

(hopeing i don’t need to rebuild 4years of content)

I think the best way is

  1. install an old version (as old as your dump.xml) of SPIP first

  2. restore the old database on the old spip

  3. upgrade the spip to the latest version
