An author cannot edit an article anymore once it has been validated
by an
administrator (even if he is co-author)... This is therefore
normal that
your partner does not see the [modify this article] button.
Hmmm.
OK I understand the logic behind. Does it mean that, if I (administrator) change back the status of an article of mine from
"validated/published online" to "editing in progress" he'll
be able to edit my article? But, in the meantime, it won't
be visible online, right? Until I validate it again, that is.
TIA (Thanks In Advance, not my name
)

Yeap. that's the way it it works.
(however, if you don't re-calculate the page, the cache is still
available for a while)
the first versions of Spip-lab (http://lab.spip.net/), the new branch
of spip distribution proposes a versionning mechanism (see
http://lab.spip.net/spikini/VersionnageDesArticles, yet only in French)
that may help you.
