Error in backup (. . .)!

I'm trying to update a website to a newer version of Spip. I was not
the one originally installing it, but I know how to work in spip (the
design language - I don't know much about databases). Now I would like
to change the website and thought I should update the Spip first.

I try to follow the directions in "how to update spip":
http://www.spip.net/en_article2154.html

So first I want to make a backup of the database. First fail. I click
"backup the database" in the admin section but all that happens is
that I get the message "Error in backup (. . .)!"

I check the ftp and in the folder /ecrire/data there is a file called
"dump.gz" ... but maybe that's an old one, I don't know. What could be
the reason for the "Error in backup (. . .)!" ?
Do I need to change some permission parameters?

Ole

Hmmm Weird… Try verifying the Chmod on /ecrire/data and set it to 777 for the time of the upgrade (don’t forget to rest it after to its default value !)

Then you can read the latest mail exchange on this list between Terez, Fil, Gilles and I which were orientes toward the same question, and in wich, between other, we were considering that the article you linked was really not up to date (2006 !)
