converting news to articles

It seems (too) difficult (for me) to convert news items into articles. I'd like to do so with a few news items each containing a lot of pictures. I copied the text including the pictures (<doc...> from the news item text area into an empty article area. The stuff arived there as articles, even the pictures. But something is different: I can"t edit the images, they lost some of their format, and they don't appear in the left hand list of the admin screen as includes. Am I doing s/thing wrong or is this an illegal operation? The problem are the images. I don't want to upload them again.

Thanks for the explanations. That brought up another question (sorry to be a bother):

When managing uploaded images and inserting them into a text that image is accompanied by two test fields, i.e. "Image title" and "Description". They seem to be absorbed by the tag #TEXTE. Only Image title us being used as html alt text. I wonder how to use these text items as caption or description, resp. of the picture presented inside the article.

Your document is attached to a news. So you can only edit it within
this news. If you want to change it, you can modify the content of
your mysql table documents_articles

That would kill my just born site.

Another solution is to upload them again. on your internet server, you
can move your documents (in IMG/jpg, IMG/gif, etc..) to the folder
'ecrire/data/upload'. In order to attach these documents to the
article : in the private area, modify your document, and open the
optional panel for "ADD A DOCUMENT". Then select your document inside
the folder upload.

Or all the images of a subfolder of the folder ecrire/upload (as I discovered only now).

Have a look into the reference of SPIP : Glossary - SPIP
The DOCUMENTS loop enables you to use #TITRE and #DESCRIPTION in your template.

<imgNN> by default doesn't use the second field.

However, the comportment of a tag can be now changed by overwriting
the models they use :
for <img> it's dist/modeles/img.html ( on the svn you can have a look
here : http://trac.rezo.net/trac/spip/browser/spip/dist/modeles/img.html)

The model of a tag is nothing else than a classic template. So you can
do everything you want with it (and add #DESCRIPTION if you want)
